Story of Biograd

Biograd on the Sea, or simply Biograd, is a beautiful seaside resort and an important nautical centre with the long tradition of high-quality tourism. For the first time mentioned in the mid-10th century, this small proud town was once the crown city of Croatian kings and the seat of local bishops, which is today clearly reflected in its rich and interesting cultural heritage.

Located on a small peninsula at the very heart of the Adriatic Coast, the town is surrounded by exceptional nature and its visitors can explore five natural parks and two nature parks in its vicinity! Biograd is a city tailored to suit everyone’s needs, providing great conditions for both active and family vacation. It is an important cultural centre of the region, it is a coastal town of excellent beaches and lovely promenades, it is a place of amazing nature and stunning views, it is a splendid spot for sailing, diving, hiking and biking, and it offers modern fun parks, eco-friendly marinas, attractive events and festivals and tasty culinary specialties to its countless loyal tourist that often come back to their favourite "white town on the sea"!

The entire archipelago of Biograd is perfect for sailing, as it has a crystal-clear sea, mild tidal movements and light sea currents!

Located in the most indented part of the Adriatic Sea, in the area with the largest number of islands and several national and nature parks, Biograd is an ideal starting point for all lovers of sailing, especially between April and October. 

The town has long and proud maritime history and it is one of the most popular nautical spots of Northern Dalmatia, offering excellent facilities of well-equipped marinas, cosiness and intimacy of little private bays and numerous opportunities to explore stunning natural environment. Thanks to its favourable setting and strong connection with the sea, Biograd was one of the first summer resorts that started hosting nautical visitors and tourists in general, as early as the 1920’s.

The sea around Biograd is a desirable destination for both diving experts and those taking their first steps in the exploration of marine depths!

Many experienced divers and scuba enthusiasts find this area very attractive, as it is characterized by the extremely diverse seabed of various natural phenomena. 

The outer sides of many surrounding islands have depth of over 50 m and therefore provide perfect conditions for exploration of beautiful coral reefs, interesting hollow caves and teeming marine life. The coastal and insular flora and fauna around Biograd is rich and colourful and high visibility of the sea is ideal for underwater photo safaris, whereas the indented coast and lovely coves offer a nice shelter from occasional stronger winds and subsequent rising waves.

AMAZING BEACHES

Sun & Beach

Biograd has a number of beautiful and popular beaches, all within arm’s reach from the town and easily accessed by several pleasant promenades.

The top city beaches are Bošana, Dražica and Soline, however those who are prepared to travel a bit further should definitely visit Crvena Luka as well, a sandy picturesque cove well worth a short 3 km trip. 

The water around these Blue Flag quality beaches is very clear and the nearby pine trees on most of them provide a welcome shade and shelter from the hot and bright Mediterranean sun. Biograd’s family beaches also offer a chance for all sorts of recreational and sporting activities, as well as an opportunity to have fun in well-equipped children’s playgrounds and enjoy respectable gastronomic facilities.
